Miriam Lamoreaux is the last ALOW of the semester and of 2016!! Senate is so thankful to have such hard-working and passionate at-larges like her in our organization. We cannot wait to see who else gets spotlighted in 2017!
Hometown: Richardson, TX
Year/Major: Sophomore, Plan II and Psychology
Committee: Recruitment and Retention
Something you enjoy about Senate:
I love being surrounded by such passionate and hard-working people. I think Senate has done a lot to improve the UT experience, and I'm proud to be a part of that. I'm especially thankful for my wonderful committee, R&R, and the best co-chairs, Caity and Lu!
Something you like to do outside of Senate:
When I do have free time (which doesn't happen too often anymore), some of my favorite things to do are bake cookies, browse Pinterest, read a book, go for a run in the park, re-watch The Office, and spend time with friends.
A random fact about you:
I had pet rats when I was a kid. I adopted my first two from the pet store when I was 4, and I named them B'Lanna and Kess after my favorite Star Trek: Voyager characters - apparently 4 year old me had really strange taste in television. Every time one would die, my mom would take me to the pet store and let me adopt another one, so I ended up having 10 pet rats over the course of about 6 or 7 years.
Your favorite restaurant, dish, & why:
My favorite restaurant in Austin is Hao-Q Asian Kitchen. Eli and I really wanted to go to Genghis Grill one day until we found out that the one in Austin closed down permanently. We ended up going here instead, and it was phenomenal. The lady that runs the place knows us by name and likes to make fun of Eli every time we go. My favorite thing to get there is either the fried rice or the sesame chicken, but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu.
One of your guilty pleasures:
I love the phone game Two Dots. I figured out that if you change the date on your phone, it resets your lives and you don't have to wait for them to recharge. Now that I can cheat, I can play forever. It's super unhealthy, but I've beaten every single level, and there are a lot of them...
Words from the Co-Chairs:
"We choose Miriam for ALOW because she showed initiative by reaching out to extra schools and potential donations for Ready, Set, Go without being asked! She also showed up early, stayed late, and was always one of the first people to volunteer to help!"
